Missing Birches

Additional Information

Arriving at Oak Island, on the first day of the OSA retreat, I notices many white birches were missing. The last few years the waters of Georgian Bay had been rising and so the shores of Oak Island were shortening. The grasses you see in the painting have taken the place of the birches that had existed the year but had not survived the high waters.

This painting is an oil on board that was completed on sight (plein air). After it is dry I varnished it and dropped it into an ash floater frame that I prepared with a dark charcoal finish. The painting is wired and ready to hang.
