I enjoy painting objects that once belonged to my mother and father and thinking about the era they grew up in. I love the colour of this lure, the box design and in this case the changing meaning of words. Apparently, the word dope (on the box), was a slang word used during WWII in the phrase “What’s the dope?”, meaning “What’s the info?”. It referred to information from a reliable source- “The inside dope”. The slang use of this word died out in the 1940’s and morphed into a term for drugs in the 1950’s.
