I have made 4 similar pieces, two of which I am offering here at the Art Show. These pieces marry clear epoxy with Ambrosia Maple.
The Ambrosia Maple was too thin to make bowls without cutting it up and laminating it into a more suitable configuration. Doing so considerably reduces the impact of the markings in the wood.
By using a clear epoxy base I can separate the shallow bowl from the supporting medium and at the same time give it the feeling of depth. And yet, the wood and the epoxy are both integral parts of the piece giving it an elegance that could not be achieved with the wood alone.
