Watercolour Portrait with Ink of Canadian Red Squirrel, Unframed.
My grandmother taught me many things, one of which was a love of watercolour, as she was an artist herself. Our ancestors built a cottage on Lake Rosseau in the late 1800s which is still in our family today. In Muskoka the red squirrel is a common sight, skittering through the woods, up the trees and chattering at people and dogs down below. In capturing this moment, I think of my grandmother and what she may have thought of my art. This portrait is the last remaining from a series I completed which included a chipmunk, fox, stag, bear and wolf in the same style.
