Around Hertzberg

Additional Information

Out on an adventure, with the doggo in the front of my kayak, and picnic supplies in the back, we round the tip of Hertzberg Island, scoping out the perfect place to break for lunch and a swim.
This piece is a part of a series that explores place through personal mapping, it is an examination of my connection to this land, my experience and history in this place. Part obsessive route planning, part dreaming of travelling the waterways of Pointe au Baril, these works sit in tension with themselves. Just as my presence in this place affects the ecosystems that make it so special, so to, the birchbark resists itself and the thread holding it together, stable yet fragile.
Embroidery and waxed thread on recovered birch bark. Framed in a 10” x 10” shadow box with glass.
